The Hoback Family
Casey and Julie Hoback of Hoback Farms have been raising turkeys for VPGC for 11 years. Their whole family is involved at different points in the process. Julie and the kids all help with setting the brood house up for baby poults (handwashing the feed pans and putting the feed out) and unloading the poults when they come. The kids love checking the baby turkeys as well.
The Hobacks follow a nutrient management plan and have yearly on farm animal welfare audits. They also participate in regular animal welfare training to ensure their education and training stay up to date.
Casey says he enjoys having his family with him on the farm. He says, "It's a blessing to be able to have the kids so involved. It's a team effort to be able to raise healthy turkeys and their contributions whatever size they may be are invaluable to the operation."
